Thanks to all our supporters and staff the Summer Reading Program concluded with having 100% of the students enrolled improve in their reading skills this year. Several of the students increased the equivalence of a whole grade level. New to the program this year was the addition of 11 new Chrome Books thanks to the Jessica Laursen Memorial Fund. This made a big impact on our Computer Classes, as it made it easier for the children to practice keyboarding, do research, and develop power points.
Thanks to all who donated and attended!

OUR 44th SUMMER SESSION HAS CONCLUDED...
ONCE AGAIN WE MADE THE DECISION TO CARRY ON WITH OUR MISSION, IN SPITE OF COVID. ALTHOUGH, WE STILL HAD TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN BEING TUTORED TO JUST 12, WE WERE ABLE, THIS YEAR, TO BRING BACK ART LESSONS AND SOME COMPUTER TIME FOR EACH CHILD. WE ARE HOPING THAT NEXT SUMMER WE WILLBE ABLE TO RETURN TO NORMAL. |

OUR 43RD SUMMER SESSION HAS CONCLUDED...
AND THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE A YEAR TO REMEMBER!
The changes and alterations to our program, as a result of the pandemic, made us resilient and flexible. Our decision to carry on with our mission, in spite of COVID, meant there would be limitations, protocols and safety measures that we would have to institute. The biggest changes were the limitations to the number of students we could serve and the streamlining of our program to include only the hour of one-on-one tutoring per child. Unfortunately this meant, that for this year, we had to eliminate the art and computer classes that we usually offer the children. The number of students we worked with dropped from 30 to 12. We worked with 4 students each hour so they along with their 4 tutors and the2 administrative staff would maintain the protocol of no more than 10 persons gathered together at one time. The other changes included the institution of such safety measures as taking temperatures, wearing masks and shields, no communal use of materials, sitting 6 feet apart, and disinfecting tables, chairs and materials before and after students. These were costly and time consuming, but a small price to pay to still be able to carry out our mission, no matter how small the number.
Thanks to Everyone who helped make this year a success in spite of Covid.

2016 Team of Scholars, tutors and staff
The Eagles' Loft....
Paul Newrones, a three year tutor with our Summer Reading Program and an Eagle Scout made renovating a room in our 102 year old church the object of his Eagle Scout Project. He took on the task of remodeling the room, complete with updated electricity, in order to have a new home for our long awaited computer lab. Thanks to Paul the room is electrically safe and ready to house 12 computer stations. He painted the room and outfitted it with new tables and even curtains. In honor of Paul the room is to be called the Eagles' Loft. We can't wait to move the computers in.
In order to be able to take full advantage of all 12 stations we are in need of 2 more computers. If anyone has one to donate or would like to bless us with a new one we would be very grateful.
2016: Go Fund Me Campaign:
We still have our funding campaign on line. We are collecting now for the summer session of 2016. We currently have around $3,500 of our goal of $15,000 for this year. We had such a great response last year that we will continue our campaign. If you were generous enough to give last year please help us again.

2016 "Night Out For Literacy"
Thank you to everyone who attended, donated and prayed for our event. We had over 100 guests, a beautiful day and cleared a little over $2,700.00. This is enough to provide scholarships for 9 children to attend our Summer Reading Program free of charge this summer. In the mean time if you did not get to come and still want to make a donation you can click on our Funding page here or use our Go Fund Me site at the link above.

2015: Thanks for a great Summer
Thanks to all who have prayed and supported our efforts this summer. With just one final week of our program left, we feel so blessed that even though we did not reach our fundraising goal we were still able to carry on as we have done for the last 37 years. Our numbers were smaller, but the intensity of our program was just the same. The 21 scholars and 13 teen staff made a total of 34 impacted lives this summer. Thank you again and may God bless each and everyone of you! This Friday we will be having a small closing reception for our program and would like to invite anyone who has been a part of our program, supporting us in the background, to come and help us celebrate. It will be at 11:00 am on July 31st at the Broadway Christian Church. If anyone would like to continue supporting us, the Go Fund Me campaign is still up and will continue to collect funds to reach our original goal of $15,000. Any funds collected now will be used for next year. We have almost $6,000 more to go, which will be a great start for our 39th session.
